Perfil: Raul Seixas

Raul dos Santos Seixas was born in Salvador Bahia in June 28, 1945. His main influence was the rock and roll from the 50s. Created the group The Panthers (later Os panteras), the first rock group from Salvador to use electric instruments, he played in the main cities of Bahia. He began studying law but left school to devote himself to music. In 1967, Jerry Adriani presented live in Salvador, accompanied by the Panthers, and was enthusiastic about the group, persuading them to move to Rio de Janeiro , where he recorded for Odeon (later EMI) his first album LP Raulzito and the Panthers.

Presented at the VII FIC (broadcast by Globo TV) in 1972, with two songs, Let Me Sing, Let Me Sing and Eu so eu, Nicuri e o diabo. Hired in 1972 by Philips, the LP The 24 greatest hits of the rock era, which appeared only credited as producer and arranger (in 1975, with Raul already famous, this LP would be released with his name and new title, 20 years rock).

His first major success as an interpreter was Ouro de tolo in 1973 for her debut solo LP Krig-ha, Bandolo!, The same year and which included other hits such as Metamorfose ambulante, Mosca na sopa and Al Capone (with Paulo Coelho ). His success was consolidated.

Despite increasing health problems and several exchanges of record, he maintained the prestige and success in almost all their LPs. On August 21, 1989, just two days after the release of A panela do diabo, Raul dies due to chronic pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, and cardiac and respiratory arrest, as stated in his death certificate. Interestingly after his death, his talent was more recognized than ever, recruiting more followers every day, and posthumously released new records and collections, all blockbusters.

In his career he pioneered the mixture of all sorts of musical influences to rock and roll to Northeastern rhythms (Aventuras de Raul Seixas na cidade de Thor), folk-style Bob Dylan (Ouro de tolo) cheesy music (Sessao das 10), Umbanda (Mosca na sopa). In his letters addressed with equal aplomb topics as diverse as human sentiments, criticizing the system, esotericism and agnosticism. Its message is often implicit in letters that can be taxed by less discerning of silly and at other times it's pure poetry.

Raul Seixas - Metamorfose ambulante

Today, Rauzito, is a legend followed for people who walks against the normal, the regular. Its common to hear, in Brazil, in a private show or when friends get togheter to play some music, someone saying `Toca Raul` (play Raul). Was a sad lost for the alternative brazilian music
